New Hyundai 7-Seater – Maruti Ertiga Rival
In the recent investor meeting, Hyundai confirmed launches of as many as 26 cars by the end of 2030. The plan is to update the current line-up, introduce hybrid technology, and launch a bunch of new nameplates. Additionally, the brand has confirmed that it will be launching a new 7-seater MPV. Now, earlier, we expected it to be the Hyundai Staria – a Kia Carnival-based MPV. However, Hyundai might in fact not enter a niche segment and instead bring a new 7-seater to rival the Maruti Ertiga! And who will do this job for Hyundai? Well, in global markets, Hyundai has an affordable 7-seater based on the Kia Carens Clavis – the Hyundai Stargazer. Similar to the Carens Clavis, the Stargazer is a premium & spacious 7-seater which will help the brand to attract Indian buyers.

Stargazer As A Product
Hyundai Stargazer is a 7-seater based on the Kia Carens Clavis. Globally, the MPV comes with features like – connected car technology, ADAS, wireless charging pad, electronic parking brake and more. However, for India, we can expect the car to also get ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, etc. That said, it gets a well laid out interior with connected screens like Creta & is surrounded by soft-touch materials.

In the global markets, the Stargazer comes equipped with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (113 & 144Nm). For India, we can expect Hyundai also to offer 1.5-litre turbo petrol (157bhp & 253Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel engine (114bhp & 250Nm), same as the Carens. Additionally, it is highly expected that Hyundai will also offer a CNG option with the Stargazer. Why? Well, in FY25, Maruti sold more than 1.90 lakh units of the Ertiga, among which, 1.29 lakh buyers opted for CNG – instead of its 1.5-litre NA petrol engine.

New Hyundai 7-Seater – Why Maruti Ertiga Rival?
Currently, the Maruti Ertiga is the best-selling 7-seater in India. At times, the Ertiga has been a top-selling car of the month, showcasing its popularity in the country. The brand sells more than 10,000 to 15,000 units per month of the model. Having said that, we do not have many competitors in the segment – except the Carens Clavis. So, it is highly possible that Hyundai will rival the Ertiga with the Stargazer.
