According to a report from Autocar, the next iteration of the Bharat NCAP is expected in around two years. In its new form, the BNCAP will feature additional crash tests and more advanced dummies.

That said, as the next iteration of the safety assessment program rolls out, the BNCAP will add a full-frontal impact test to the current frontal offset deformable barrier test, where only a single portion of the car’s front width is made to crash. Similarly, a rear crash impact test will also be introduced, along with superior dummies, to provide comprehensive crash safety data. These new sets of assessments are expected to start from the end of 2027.

Apart from that, the testing will also be expanded to test ADAS. Currently, the majority of car-makers are offering cars with ADAS features. That said, with its new iteration, the BNCAP crash tests will be more difficult, and the car-makers would need to build some really good cars around to secure a full 5-star safety rating.

At present, 24 cars have been crash tested by Bharat NCAP, with 21 cars achieving a full 5-star safety rating. However, in the coming time with new testing norms and additional strict testing it will be interesting to see how many cars make it to the five star rating group.
